Windows and Exterior Remodeling in Salem Oregon

Exterior remodeling can add value to your home.

Especially with windows and siding.

Of course, exteriors can also include roof, paint, and landscaping (sorry we do not offer this). With "curb appeal" being an important part of real estate sales, the exterior is the first impression that someone has of the home. It may make the difference as to whether they will want to go in!

Windows are popular not only for energy savings and curb appeal, but the enhanced experience of managing the light and heat coming through windows is important for many homeowners.

Energy efficient windows not only conserve heating energy during the winter, but help keeps things cooler in the warmer months. Leaky and inefficient windows can cause up to 25%-40% of the average household energy bill. In Salem, that can add up. Energy efficient windows can help to reduce those costs both in the winter and summer. Plus, we can save you up to 40% on the costs of windows. Think about those reduced costs also!" Room with a View - Energy Savings with Vinyl WIndows

New windows are always a home improvement enhancement, as many homeowners seek to increase the energy efficiency of their home. However, there is much more to windows than energy savings.

Depending on the project, there are considerations for styling. Which styles work best for you? Traditional craftsman? French country?  Modern-contemporary or high-end style? Maybe a combination depending on the room?

What about locking?
The locks and latches that are integrated with certain windows and sliding glass doors are important. Are they two stage or one stage locks? Window opening control devices must be installed correctly to ensure maximum safety, especially where small children are in the home.

Energy Efficient Windows Save $$$ - What Do the Energy Symbols Represent?

Innovative, energy savings windows can start to pay for themselves as soon as they are installed! This is one of the strong motivations for many of our customers. In the summer, energy efficient windows will block the radiant heat from the entering your home, reducing your cooling bills. In the winter, the sun's solar heat is allowed to enter the home and keeps heat from escaping, reducing your energy costs. Argon gas can provide an additional layer of insulation between double paned windows.

What About Vinyl Windows?
A vinyl window can be inexpensive, durable and remarkably energy efficient when designed properly to minimize thermal transfer. While early vinyl windows had problems with thermal expansion and stability in very hot environments, modern vinyl windows are much more durable and dimensionally stable. Look for vinyl window frames with heat-welded joints — they're stiffer than mechanically joined vinyl frames and thus provide better resistance to temperature stresses. Interior webs also strengthen the frame and improve its thermal performance.
Benefits of Vinyl Windows
·         Exceptionally energy efficient
·         Extremely durable
·         Non-corroding
·         Virtually maintenance-free
·         Available in a wide range of styles and shapes
·         Cost effective
·         Easy to install

There are three things that we look for in a windows manufacturer: a commitment to innovation, reliable performance, and exceptional design. One of our vendors, MillGard has all three and has won awards for their vinyl windows. We are proud to represent an award winning company and provide the highest quality window products to our customers.

Energy-efficient windows not only conserve heating energy during the winter, but help keeps things cooler in the warmer months
. Leaky and inefficient windows can cause up to 25%-40% of the average household energy bill. In Salem, that can add up. Energy-efficient windows can help to reduce those costs both in the winter and summer. Plus, we can save you up to 40% on the costs of windows. Think about those reduced costs also!

A Good Investment

Saving money on your energy costs are the main reason to have a winter window inspection.

There may be tax savings.  New windows can improve curb appeal and increase resale value. According to a study by Remodeling magazine and Realtor magazine, homeowners can expect to recoup about 93% for vinyl or wood window replacement.

Energy Audit Can Give Details for Energy SavingsAn energy audit can help you see what the potential savings are for replacing your windows. Check out this information page - Energy Audits - and get the information you need to make an informed decision. The Energy Trust of Oregon will provide a free home energy review. It is a visual review and not an in-depth diagnostic.

Contractor and Windows Manufacturer Warranty
After you have evaluated the benefits of energy-efficient windows, you will need to find a contractor and make sure that the manufacturer of the windows has good warranties and quality control. One of the windows manufacturers that we recommend for both is Milgard. We are reproducing the Lifetime Warranty information here from their web site. It is one of the strongest in the industry. Ten Tips for Summer Energy Savings

1) Windows:
The average annual savings in the Northwest with changing to an Energy Star rated double pane window is $258.00 . Single pane is $112.00 . A standard double-pane window allows approximately 75 percent of the sun’s heat into your home. With ENERGY STAR qualified windows you can stay cool all summer long. Most ENERGY STAR qualified windows reduce the “heat gain” into your home more than typical windows do, without reducing the visible light. You get the light you need without the uncomfortable heat.

2) Open windows at night, close in morning. Close your shades, blinds, and drapes to help block the sun's radiant energy,

3) Thermostat - set it to 78 degrees for air conditioning. Each degree up or down can make a difference in your utility bill.

4) Ceiling Fans -  use them to help circulate cooler air. Turn them off when you are away. A ceiling fan can reduce costs up to 14% with only a 2 degree increase in the thermostat

5) Fill Up Your Frig - a full refrigerator keeps it from warming up more slowly than an empty one and uses less energy to stay cool after opening.

6) Use energy savings light bulbs - in addition to lowering the electric bill, they produce 75% less heat than incandescent bulbs.

7) Have a attic inspection by a contractor to maximize insulation. If every American household did so, we would collectively save more than $1.8 billion in yearly energy costs.

8) Have fun and save - avoid using the oven and grill / cook outside. How cool is that ?

9) Use the bathroom fan to remove the heat and humidity from your home after showering or bathing. Make sure bathroom and kitchen fans are vented to the outside and not just to the attic.

10) Clean the lint from the clothes dryer after every load. Run full loads and use the moisture-sensing setting. This will help save 5 percent on your electric bill.
